The Department of Engineering Mechanics and Construction – Technical Expertise

 

Conforming to modern standards, the mission of the Department is to fundamentally train bachelors, masters and doctoral students in compliance with the educational coursefor the following faculties: construction, transport, energy, agro-engineering and informatics.

The development of the department is directly related to its competitive and varied training courses, which are conducted by highly experienced teachers and professors.

Theoretical mechanics, material durability, analytical mechanics, engineering mechanics, material mechanics, engineering stats, applied mechanics, construction mechanics, theory  of plasticity, sustainability of buildings – are those basic disciplines, the mastering and in depth studies of which are essential  practically for the specialties of the faculties listed above.

All lines of modern scientific research activity (theory of elasticity, theory of plasticity, fluid mechanics, sustainability of buildings), in which the staff of the department works make the Department competitive not only within the country but internationally.

The main objectives of the Department for the future academic years are to improve the quality of educational and scientific work, based upon the existing teaching staff.

The basic strategy and the tasks of the Department.

The strategy of the Department pursues a 7-year Strategic Plan of Georgian Technical University, the main tasks of which are as follows:

1.  To apply multimedia technique by 100%while conducting lectures;

2.  To increase the number of students with whom the teaching staff of the Department works individually;

3.  To create new or to resume old training courses in those directions where the subjects of the department are conducted;

  1. The average age of professors should be reduced to 55-60 years;

  2. To improve the qualification of personnel as required;

  3. To promote individual work with masters and doctoral students and to create corresponding terms for them to continue pedagogical activity in the department;

7.  To diversify the scientific activity of the teaching staff and to involve both academic staff and invited personnel into the process of scientific topics working out;

  1. To promote the process of the published scientific works citing up to 50 % for all the employees;

  2. To enhance the works to be submitted to the students’ scientific conferences.
